Why do I need a Baby Hair Shaver?

Even fine hairs trapped under the tapes will prevent them from sticking correctly, and will prickle and cause irritation, thereby attracting your baby’s fingers to their ears. This can cause your baby to pull at the tapes, so shaving the hair where the tapes stick is one of the most important recommendations.

Instructions

Operating Instructions

  1. Remove battery cover by pushing in the direction of the arrow.
  2. Remove the plastic wrapper from the alkaline battery provided, and insert the battery following the directions printed on the inside of the trimmer. Make sure that the polarity of the battery is correct.
  3. Use alkaline batteries with your Wahl product.
  4. Replace the battery cover to its original position.
  5. Replace batteries as soon as you notice the trimmer running slower than normal, to avoid pulling hairs.
  6. To maximize battery life, trimmer should be shut off immediately after using.

Using with EarBuddies

  • It is best practice to shave the hair, no matter how fine, in the area where the tapes will stick for a firm and trouble-free fix. This is especially important for babies older than one month, who have more hair than newborns.
  • Don’t worry about shaving a baby’s hair – in some countries this is done routinely, often several times before the age of one year. Shaving a small amount around the ears will do no harm.
  • Babies have delicate skin, so be gentle, and shave at a 30° angle.
  • See the photos below for guidance on how much hair to shave. Parents splinting to correct less common conditions such as Cryptotia, Stick-Out Lobe and Conchal Crus may be able to get away with shaving less hair (see the fitting pictures for the specific conditions in Steps 5 & 6 of the fitting guide).

Oiling Blades

  • For best results, put one or two drops of Wahl Clipper Oil on the blades. Oil the blades before and after every use.
  • When oiling the trimmer, turn the trimmer ON, hold the unit facing down and squeeze one or two drops of oil onto the blades. Wipe off excess oil with a cloth.
  • Do not over oil! Excessive oiling or application of liquids will cause damage if allowed to seep back into the motor.
  • WARNING: NEVER IMMERSE TRIMMER IN WATER OR ANY OTHER LIQUIDS

Blade Care

  • Trimmer blades have precision-hardened, ground and lapped cutting teeth. Blades should be handled carefully and never bumped or used to cut dirty abrasive material.

Cleaning & Storage

  • Before storing your trimmer, use the cleaning brush to remove any loose hairs from the unit and the blades.
  • Store unit in such a manner so that blades are protected from damage.
  • When the trimmer is not in use, the trimmer guide/blade guard attachment should be in place to protect the blades.

Troubleshooting

If your product fails to operate when switched ‘ON’ check your batteries to see if they are properly installed. Positive end should be located as shown in battery housing. Make sure switch is in the ‘ON’ position and check to be sure blades are free to move. If blades become clogged, manually pushing the blades back and fourth few times while unit is turned ‘OFF’ may help free the blades and allow the trimmer to operate. If it still does not operate, your batteries have probably exceeded their useful life.
